With a spectacular view of the Arenal  Volcano, natural hot and cold springs, five unique dining experiences, and an  impressive full   service Spa, The Springs Resort and Spa at Arenal promises to overwhelm you in every aspect of quality, service and design.

This Costa Rica luxury  resort perches one thousand feet above  the   Arenal Valley on a mountain ridge just six  kilometers north of the   active volcano but safely outside the government  declared danger zone. Our luxury hotel’s higher altitude relative to other hotels in the area  allows for not   only incomparable views of the Arenal volcano, the lush valley, and the surrounding towns that sparkle at night, but also access to the area’s   famous  prevailing breezes. In fact, the name Arenal volcano is an   indigenous word meaning  “Window of the Wind”. With an average  daytime  high temperature of 80˚F in the shade and nighttime lows averaging 70˚F you are sure to enjoy countless comfortable hours in your balcony hammock, al fresco dining, or sipping a frothy tropical cocktail in one of our spring pools or our private Arenal hot springs.

The Springs Resort and Spa is a  165 acre luxury boutique five star   hotel in La Fortuna, Arenal, Costa Rica with  the best view of the   Arenal Volcano and the most onsite guest amenities  including a 14,000   square foot full service Spa, hot springs, a kilometer of  frontage on  the Arenal River and a wildlife rescue preserve. Chemical analysis of the minerals in our hot  springs shows   that we have the best hot springs in Arenal, La Fortuna with the    highest parts per million of beneficial minerals.  We offer a two day   pass for only $60 per  person and this includes the hot springs tour and   the wildlife rescue preserve  Jungle Cats tour as well as access to our   five great restaurants and five  bars.  Day visitors can also book    additional tours with us.

Natural Hot Mineral Springs, Pools and Waterfalls

Our   eighteen freeform, landscaped pools  provide our guests with great   views of the volcano and a multitude of  options.  With temperatures   ranging from  83˚F to 103˚F and environments that vary from raging   waterfalls to tranquil  forest experiences our guests can find the   perfect pool for their mood and the  current weather conditions.  Tests   of our  hot mineral springs reveal an ideal natural combination of high   bicarbonate and  high chlorides with relatively low sulfur content to   provide a safe and clean  soaking experience.

Las  Lagunas (The Lagoons)   Located at the base of the   reception  building this area encompasses two acres  of lush landscaping   and an assortment of multi-level sun and shade terraces surrounding    twelve pools.  Four of the pools are fed  directly by water pumped from   our Hot Mineral Springs and the other eight are  chlorinated but heated   to various temperatures by our Hot Springs through a heat exchange   system.  These pools range in temperature from 83˚F to  103˚F.

Perdido  Springs (Lost Springs) is a connected system of    trails and seven spring fed pools located within a forest canyon just a   short  100 meter walk from the lowest level of the Las Lagunas pools.    The trail to these Hot and Cold Springs,  called the Heliconia Walk, is   lined with 150 different species of flowering  Heliconias along with   beautiful rainforest trees, plants and vines.   In the center of these   pools is a small  jungle bar called Los Perdidos (The Lost Ones) along   with a water flume called  the Monkey Slide.   These pools range in    temperature from 90˚F to 101˚F.

The Springs Spa and Fitness Center

Our   fourteen thousand square foot full  service Spa encompasses one entire   level of our reception building and reflects  our serious commitment to   provide a complete treatment experience to replenish  your mind, body   and soul.  Massages, facials,  body wraps, manicures and pedicures are   offered in a luxurious and holistic  setting administered by trained   professionals with the latest technology.  Our treatment menu utilizes   tropical  botanical ingredients indigenous to the country as well as a   variety of lab-tested,  therapeutic volcanic clays harvested on the   property near the hot springs.

Las  Ventanas (The Windows) - Reservation Required

Dinner 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Enjoy the finest dining in our incredible restaurant Las Ventanas where the only thing better than the view is the food.  Be careful to avoid the window seats if you are afraid of heights because the windows are angled out to allow you to look almost straight down a thousand feet to the river below! At night the distant mountains twinkle with the lights of cities thirty miles away.  Be sure to dine here at least once during the evening to capture the complete experience.   Our Chef has created a menu blending the latest fusion concepts and the finest ingredients found on Costa Rica’s farms and in its two oceans.  The menu is a well balanced combination of beef, seafood, pork, and homemade pasta as well as vegetarian fare. The incredible desserts are prepared using some traditional Spanish cooking methods combined with the natural flavors of Costa Rica.

Tres Cascadas (Three Waterfalls)

Lunch 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Dinner 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Our House restaurant would be appropriately described as a “Tasting” experience.  Here you will sample to your heart’s content a variety of salads with signature dressings, hot or cold soups of the day, assorted fresh baked breads, and a selection of hot entrée items and snacks including fresh seafood from the pacific coast, imported steaks and local Latin cuisine. Our dessert menu offers a variety of classic and local signature delights with a unique art touch. When available, enjoy our international Dinner Buffet which includes a variety of Salads, Entrées, a complete dessert bar with small size delicacies and a pasta station with very fresh ingredients and sauces.

Ginger  Sushi

The kitchen opens to orders from other restaurants from 1:00 PM
Sushi Bar: 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Whether you just want an afternoon or late  night sushi snack or an   entire meal, Ginger Sushi is your ideal option.  You can dine under the   stars or under roof in  our festive open air Games Level.    Our fish   arrives straight from Costa Rica’s fertile fishing grounds    where they consistently catch Yellow fin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Sea   Bass and Snapper  along with an assortment of other tasty  seafood   delicacies. What better place to   have a  light, healthy snack while enjoying the view of the Volcano and   perhaps a game  of chess, checkers or backgammon.

Treetops  Grill

Open 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
We are not sure whether to describe the  experience as poolside,   cliff-side or tree canopy dining.  It all depends on which way you turn   because  you are surrounded by  waterfall pools, while overlooking   the tree canopy,  down a slope which falls one thousand feet below,   while the prevailing breezes  rustle the palm fronds shading you from   above. Add great food from the grill including  the best hamburger in   Costa Rica,   an informal dress code, and some tropical music to the   equation and you  might realize that you have found the definition of   the word “vacation”.  Bathing attire is not only permitted its    suggested.  Even better, if you don’t  want to leave the comfort of your   poolside chaise lounge, we will bring the  menu to you.  Because after   all, we think  this is what your vacation is all about.

Heliconia  Bar

Open 12:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Located on the fourth floor of the  reception between Las Ventanas   and Tres Cascadas, this bar is perfect for a  relaxing drink before or   after dinner or for an afternoon cocktail. The seating  presents a   magnificent view of the volcano. The bar is decorated   with cut   Heliconia flowers from our on site collection.   The    flowers are so magnificent you have to touch them to make sure they are  real.

La  Laguna Bar (The Lagoon Bar)

Open 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Located in the center of our largest pool  named La Laguna (The   Lagoon)is our ever popular  swim up bar.  This unique   pool has multiple waterfalls and contains  chlorinated water that is   heated to a more than comfortable temperature by a heat  exchange system using   the hot water pumped from our natural hot springs.   Another unique   feature of this bar is the warm curtain of micro-bubbles  emanating from its base that creates the sensation of sitting atop a flowing  spring.
When there is a televised sporting event this becomes the best sports bar in La Fortuna, Arenal where you sit in the warm water and watch the game on our flat screen TV's.  Spending a few hours at this bar which has the best view of the Arenal Volcano is one of the best things to do in La Fortuna.

The  Ranchito Bar (The Little Rancho)

Available for Functions and Private Parties

Located next to Canyon Falls, we believe this bar boasts the most   beautiful setting in the reception pool  area. Its higher location on   the upper level of the Cascada Grande Pool allows  you to see out   towards the volcano, down over Playa Piedra Pool and Lower  Laguna   Pools, back towards the largest waterfall of Cascada Grande and out over    the La Laguna pool and down to the valley below.  There is also a   heated Jacuzzi a few steps  away.

Los  Perdidos Bar (The Lost Ones)

Open 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Located at the nexus of the trails within Perdido Springs (Lost Springs), this is a rustic palm thatch jungle bar that is surrounded by hot spring waterfalls on three sides and gardens on the other.  There will be waiter service to all seven of the Perdido Springs Pools from this bar. This is a great place to watch the adventurous take a ride down our water flume the Monkey Slide.

Game Lounge

The Game Lounge, located on the second floor of the hotel, right alongside the Ginger Sushi Bar is the perfect entertainment location for children and adults alike. The various gaming consoles including a large screen Nintendo Wii, all of the newest gaming consoles, various puzzles and board games, table tennis, a chess board as well as foos-ball  provide for everyone’s entertainment needs, whatever they may be.  Although this is not a baby-sitting service we usually have a staff member in the room to assist the children with the games. Having the Ginger sushi bar at the entrance to our game room allows for adults to dine and enjoy a few cocktails while their children play right in the next room.  We love to see our guest families spending quality evening time with their children in this family friendly environment.

The Springs Wildlife Preserve

Inconjunction with the MINAE (Ministry of  the Environment and   Energy) we operate a preserve for Costa Rican wildlife that  has either   been confiscated from poachers or donated by other private preserves  or   individuals.  We currently care for a multitude of animals including jungle cats, monkeys, among many others!

Recreational  Activities

On-site Activities

Club Rio Outdoor Center located 1.5 kilometers directly below the resort along our beautiful stretch of Arenal River frontage.  This is a “Must See” amenity of The Springs Resort and Spa where we offer some of the most unique adventure activities in Costa Rica including Inflatable River Kayaking, River Tubing, Horseback Tours, Hiking Trails, Nature Tours, Hot Springs, Mountain Biking, Fishing, Swimming and a Wildlife Preserve for rescued animals.  Our  restaurant and bar, Rancho Club Rio, is  open for beverages and snacks and is a great place to relax in a beautiful atmosphere and watch the activity on the river and absorb the nature surrounding you.

Before or after your activities you can relax in hot spring pools just meters away from the scenic Arenal River or take a dip in a natural river pool where hot water percolates from the sand beneath your feet.  In certain areas of this pool you can lay in the hot sand while the cool river water flows over you.  It is a spectacularly beautiful and natural environment great for swimming or relaxing in a lounge chair and watching the river flow over the rapids.

Please don’t miss our “Calcium Canyon” hiking trails where you can take a quick circular loop hike and see natural hot springs welling up from the forest floor and the beautiful calcium formations the water makes on its path to the river.  Midway along this hike there is an incredible “Guacima” tree that has enormous buttress roots 20 feet wide and offers a mystical photo opportunity.

Five Reasons Why You Should Choose The Springs Resort & Spa

We want you to  have the greatest vacation experience possible and we feel that our property Day Visitor  Package offers considerably more than other local hot springs for the following reasons:

1. Superior View of the Volcano and Valley.  We  are located on a high mountain ridge that allows for an eye-level view of the  entire volcano (from base to top) along with the surrounding mountains and the  valley below.  On a clear day the view  extends for over 25 miles.  Even when the  volcano summit is cloudy you still have an unbelievable view of the mountain  range and valley.  The other hot springs in the area  are located at the base of the volcano (most within the government declared  danger zone) and they only have a view looking up to the top of the volcano,  so when the top is cloudy they have no view at all.

2. Various Pool Temperatures.   Clearly no one wants to sit in 104˚F hot water for a prolonged period on  a 90˚F sunny day. At The Springs Resort and Spa when it comes to bathing  experiences we are all about options.  In  the Las Lagunas pool area alone we have eleven pools with seven different  temperatures, and at Perdido Springs we have eight pools with eight different  temperatures.  Our Laguna Pool Bar has an  ideal regulated temperature of between 88˚F and 90˚F for enjoying cocktails  without sweating or getting cold on either sunny days or rainy nights.  All of these pools are in close proximity to  each other so it is easy to hop from one to the other.

3. Five Dining Experiences and Five Bars- Unlike other local hot springs that offer  limited dining options, generally a basic buffet without a view of the Volcano;  we offer five restaurants (Fine Dining, Gourmet Buffet, Sushi, Riverside Rancho, and Pool Grill),  all with a picture perfect view of the Volcano and Valley.  Of our five bars, only one bar, Los Perdidos,  does not have a view of the volcano because it is located in an incredible rain  forest setting surrounded by waterfalls.

4. More Space to Spread out and Relax.   Whether you are interested in basking in the sun or relaxing in a  hammock in the shade we offer an extensive area of sun and shade terraces  surrounding our pool areas with comfortable lounges, rocking chairs and hammocks,  all with a perfect view of the volcano.   The other area hot springs  give you just the option of sitting in the hot water or on the edge of the hot  water, or fighting for one of the few lounge chairs.

5. Cooler Air Temperatures and Prevailing  Breezes.  The Arenal   Valley can get extremely hot  on a sunny day and that is why we are pleased to be located five hundred feet  above the valley plateau on a mountain ridge in the path of the prevailing  breezes.  The name “Arenal” is an  indigenous word meaning “Window of the Wind” because of the prevailing breezes  created by the differential pressures of the Pacific and Caribbean Oceans.  All of the other local hot springs are located down in the valley  and are not able to take advantage of these breezes.  With an average daytime high temperature of  80˚F in the shade and nighttime lows averaging 70˚F, you are sure to enjoy  countless comfortable hours sipping a frothy cocktail in one of our spring  pools or dining al fresco at one of our restaurants.
